‘We saw much more than we expected. In the 80s we saw no whales and no dolphins either. We saw many gray whales and tons of dolphins of a few varieties. I’m glad I went with this company. We had a variety of places to go–the wheelhouse, up on the upper deck with seating, the bow, with seating, or the rear deck, or you could go below. The boat was really comfortable and the captain and naturalist were really nice. We will use Blue Ocean again this summer–our parents want to go out. Great company.’

Monterey Bay Whale Watching Trips
What Wildlife am I likely to see?
It’s summer 2019 and so far this year has been incredible! We had humpback whales overwintering in the bay, gray whale sightings in the winter and spring, and plenty of killer whale sightings (including 1 sighting of southern residents!!!) in late April, early May and also the beginning of June! Humpback whale numbers have fluctuated up and down, but we’ve been finding them on every trip! Dolphins have also been in the bay for many of our trips: Risso’s, Pacific white-sided, and northern right whale dolphins. Just a few blue whale sightings so far but we hope for more! On June 11th we had our first leatherback sea turtle sighting! Get on a boat!
